    Frequently Asked Questions

    How often are classes held?
The majority of our programs are by request only, this better meets the specific needs of our clients.  We also offer "TFO Clinics" that cover a verity of topics and skills.  These clinics are scheduled on preset dates and locations, please check the tab above for current listings.

What is the 4-Phase Training approach?
We have created a unique training process that ensures your complete comprehension of the program material.  We use a combination of classroom and field training, reinforced by personal studies, then concluded with an evaluation of skills.  We support you with study guides and a open line of communication throughout your training.  Our goal is the same as yours, for you to master the skills you are seeking.

    Who can participate?
Our programs are designed for adults 18 years of age and older.  Both men and women are encouraged to attend of our classes.  We do at times hold training sessions that are gender specific, but all of our training is available to both men and women.  We do not include youth in our regular programs but will work with youth organizations to develop a program specific to their interests.  Training can be provided on a individual or group basis.

    Where are the classes held?
Train-For-The-Outdoors is a mobile training operation based in Willoughby, Ohio.  Much of our training is conducted in northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania, but we conduct training in a wide range of locations. All efforts are made to meet the training needs of our clients as well as being as convenient as possible.

What are the costs associated with your Programs?
We provide predominately customized training programs for the learning of advanced wilderness skills.  These programs are unique to the client's request for training, and come at a higher price than your typical basic programs. There are a few factors that are taken in consideration when we price a program; type of training, skill level, number of people participating, location, training supplies, and instructor fees.  Our training and followup program offers real value to our clients by providing quality throughout the whole training process.

How do I apply for a class?
Contact us by using the information on the "contact" page, it has all the methods you need; quick email message, email address for larger emails with attachments, and our phone number.  Tell us what you're interested in and we'll design a custom program for you or your group.

    Do you conduct para-military training?
No, I'm proud of my service in the United States Marine Corps and of all of our veterans, but we do not conduct para-military training.  We will on occasion use wilderness skills developed by various military organizations as apart of our training process.  We do offer wilderness survival training to the U.S. military and other U.S. government organizations upon request.

How do you choose your instructors?
We interview evaluate all instructors that conduct training  for us.  We are very selective in who provides training for our clients and all instructors must follow strict guidelines for quality and service.  Head instructors must provide proof of proper training and experience plus participate in our instructors training program.  Many of our assistant instructors are top students of our programs and are also required to participate in an instructors program prior to teaching.
